What does the word “teleios” mean?

Cathedral of the Annunciation
Our Lord Jesus Christ said, "Be perfect (Greek teleioi) as your heavenly Father is perfect." Teleios carries the meaning of being whole or complete, all that God intends one to become. The Teleios Foundation, therefore, seeks to nurture the wholeness not only of those we assist materially, but also the wholeness of our donors. We all become more whole and complete when we reach out to our neighbor with the love of Christ.

The Teleios Foundation serves the poor in St. Petersburg, Russia and in Nepal. In St. Petersburg we provide food, clothing, medical care and pastoral support to elderly widows who have no family and children from very poor families. We also provide support for the education of children in Nepal.

To help finance our charitable work we offer pilgrimages (travel programs with a spiritual focus) to various destinations. Our pilgrimages seek to strengthen the spiritual life of the participants, making their outer journey part of their inner spiritual journey.

Cathedral of the Annunciation
The Teleios Foundation was founded in 1992 by the Reverend James C. McReynolds, a priest of the Episcopal Church, to respond to the severe economic hardship he was encountering on each visit to Russia. Father McReynolds has traveled to Russia over 60 times in 37 years and speaks the language fluently. The foundation concentrates its efforts solely on projects in Russia and Nepal.

The Teleios Foundation is a public charitable non-profit foundation exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501 (c) (3). All contributions to the work of the foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
